Have you checked the newswire today? Probably not. No, the morning paper does not count. Nor does your online gossip site. In terms of news distribution, all of your favorite news sources get most of their information through something called a newswire service. And most of us common folk do not ever get exposed to it, because we get our news through the papers and television channels, which act as news middlemen.
The oldest and most respected in the country, having been established in 1846, is the AP news wire. The Associated Press is a giant news service with reporters located all over the globe. Those reporters share their information with the home base at the Associated Press, which then sends out AP press releases to all of the middlemen, who then report to the public.
Without organizations like the Associated Press, we would be at a loss for news outside of much more than our own zip codes. With the advent of the internet, and these omnipresent news organizations, with their fingers on the pulses of all of the most important news in the world, we can rest assured that as soon as the royal baby has a royal baby, we will know about it. Or, more importantly, we can also know exactly what is happening after the coupe in Egypt, or if Nelson Mandela is recovering from his illness.
While anyone is able to look up these news services and read their newswire today, the news may be easier to digest once it has been written up, and can be delivered in a neat little package. Just do not forget all of the hard work and passion going into the news. You may not see it when Donna OReilly delivers your evening news, with her perfect smile and sculpted hair, but think of what went into getting that news from Syria.
